Ya Win Some- Ya Lose Some

Well, it's been a true roller coaster week for this little mommy.
It started out well enough- I could have won an award for the most incredible mommy ever!
I mean look at part of our St. Patrick's Day dinner- shamrock shaped bread sticks?

A yummy green smoothie?
Not to mention all of the other fun St. Paddy's day tricks and treats we had.
(Or should I say the ones that the Leprechaun left us?)

Fast forward to today- ahh, Sunday. That beautiful day of peace and rest. The day when we all wake up refreshed and ready to go and fill our "spiritual cup" for the week at church.
Well, maybe that happens some Sundays, but that definitely was not this Sunday.
This day will be known forever more as the "Day of the Ogden Meltdowns".
I have to say, now that I have had some quiet moments to ponder about all that happened this day- I have come up with a few things that should have told me to "watch out."

1.
My children have shared so many kisses with me this week because I was the "best mommy ever" that I have now caught the sick bug that they had last week.
2. My other half is partying it up in Phoenix for a "work" retreat.
3. It snowed last night.

Now, all of these things by themselves may not be too bad, but put them all together and it creates an explosion waiting to happen- and that's just what happened today.

I won't go into details, because they're not pretty- but I really am glad that we didn't have any unexpected visitors today. They probably would have stepped up on the porch and called 911 to report some "domestic violence". I did not have my angel voice on today that's for sure.

But, that is now in the past and here I am left with a choice to make.
Do I...
A.) Allow myself to be angry and depressed for ruining a perfectly good week? Wonder how in the world I can consistently turn into psycho mom when I am really trying hard not to?
B.) Take a deep breath, eat a few Samoas (or a whole box, I've got plenty) and remember that I am not perfect, nor do I need to be. Even our Savior lost his cool when people were not doing what they should in the temple.

So this week, I won some and I lost some on the battlefield of motherhood.
I have the scars to prove it.
So raise your Samoas and have a toast- here's to another week of battles. I may win some and I may lose some, but by golly- I am not going to lose this war.
I am a great mother and I have 4 beautiful, amazing kids who love me even after a "psycho mommy" day. They gave me the hugs and kisses tonight to prove it.

  1. Can this mom just say one word? "HORMONES" we see ourselves being pyscho mom but can we do anything about? I say no but we go on and tomorrow will be another day and we try to do better. And it does not help when the dad is not around to take over. Hang in there, after all you turned out ok and I was pyscho mom a whole lot when you kids where growing up. Love ya!!!!!!!!!

  2. Way to put a positive spin on things, Dez. I know just how you feel. :) You rock! And those bread sticks are super cool. I need to be more creative about this holiday. My mom never really did anything, so I never even thought about it that much. But it's so fun when you do! :)

  3. I agree with your mother. Every time I turn into that pyscho lady whom we don't like to talk about in this house, I blame it all on "Hormones" I really hate those things. I love ya and you are perfect in your own little way!!!
